Presentation Introduction:
As a team we hoped to demonstrate the juxtaposition between that which is lively and full within life, as opposed to that which is decaying and ugly. With an underlying air of “pushing the envelope of normalcy” we hope our stage design evokes within our audience a sense of impending truth- that lightness (the good) and darkness (the bad) are inevitable in life. The symmetrical differentiation between the bright color pallet displayed on stage right as opposed to the dark color pallet displayed on stage left, illuminates an immediate and obvious mood of contrast that sets the tone for the “spoken word” piece we hope will bring life to our stage. The theme of this poetic production which inspired our stage design, is that of viewing life as a pendulum with the “door” or mind as the key player in this motion-filled game. Thus, we placed the door directly in the center of the stage- as a clear line between these two different states of existence. The thriving tree exemplified on stage right is destroyed and left to rot on stage left. This tree, in its oppositional stages of life, is meant to embody humanity itself and/or man's journey from life to death.
